We’re delighted to share that our Reconnect Mental Health Care Community at Eckington Court has expanded, with the addition of nine new specialist bedrooms designed to support more older people living with complex mental health needs.
This exciting development comes in response to growing demand for specialist mental health care and means more individuals and families can access dedicated support closer to home. For everyone connected to Eckington Court, it’s also a proud milestone that reflects our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional specialist care in a place where people feel safe, valued and understood.
Located on Penny Engine Lane, Eckington Court has been part of the local community since 1996 and opened its first Reconnect Mental Health Care Community in December 2025. Since then, the community has supported older people living with complex mental health needs through a personalised approach centred on independence, choice and meaningful daily living.
The expansion marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, enabling us to support even more people while maintaining the warm, welcoming environment that residents and families know and trust.

What is Reconnect Mental Health Care?
Reconnect Mental Health Care is designed for older adults living with mental health conditions whose needs have become more complex, or who need more support than a standard care home can provide. Our communities support people living with a range of conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, delirium and substance use disorders.
Our approach focuses on understanding each person’s life story, interests, preferences and aspirations, enabling us to provide support that reflects who they are and what matters most to them. By building genuine relationships and offering personalised support, we help residents maintain independence, confidence and a sense of purpose.
Every aspect of care is designed to promote wellbeing while supporting people to live life in a way that feels meaningful to them.
A place that feels like home
Our Reconnect Mental Health community at Eckington Court has been thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming, comfortable and familiar. Residents can enjoy cosy living rooms, welcoming kitchens, peaceful gardens and shared spaces that encourage both social connection and quiet relaxation.
People are supported to choose how they spend their time, whether that’s enjoying favourite hobbies, building friendships, spending time with family members or simply relaxing in surroundings where they feel comfortable and at ease.
This homely approach helps create an environment where residents can feel confident, respected and supported every day.

Personalised support from a specialist team
Exceptional care starts with exceptional people.
Our friendly, expert team provides enhanced, specialist support, tailored to each resident’s needs.
Our Reconnect colleagues also receive bespoke training through the Orchard Academy, equipping them with comprehensive knowledge and skills to support older people living with complex mental health needs.
Every resident’s care is shaped around their unique experiences, routines and preferences, helping us understand not just the support they need, but the person they are.
This combination of specialist expertise and person-centred care allows our teams to provide support that is not only tailored and responsive, but also compassionate and meaningful.

A proud moment for the team
Trudy Godley, Home Manager at Eckington Court, said:
“Seeing our extended Reconnect community open is a very proud moment for everyone at Eckington Court. Our team has worked incredibly hard to create an environment where people feel safe, valued and, most importantly, at home.
We believe that living with a mental health condition should never mean losing your independence, choices or sense of purpose. Reconnect is about seeing the person first and providing the right support to help them live life on their own terms.
It has been wonderful to see the new spaces come to life and to welcome residents into them. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created together and the difference we know this will make to residents and their families.”
Looking ahead
For everyone at Eckington Court, this expansion is about far more than creating additional bedrooms.
It’s about creating more opportunities for older people living with complex mental health needs to access specialist support in a place where they feel understood, valued and at home. It’s about helping families find reassurance and confidence in the care their loved ones receive. And it’s about continuing to build a community where people can maintain their independence, make meaningful connections and live well every day.
As residents begin settling into the newly expanded community, we’re excited to see the positive difference these new spaces will make for individuals and families across Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
